Hi, I'm Jess!
My love for knitting started at a really young age, taught by my Mum, like many of you I'm sure! This passion continued through my school years and lead me to study Knitwear at University. I attended London College of Fashion followed by Kingston University. Since graduating in 2014 I worked as a Knitwear Technician at two top London Universities.
However I found myself missing designing for a purpose so I started a knitted accessories brand run out of my now dye studio. Using my industrial knitting machine - called Stella- a huge piece of kit over 2 metres wide and completely hand operated I could never find the right yarns so I began dying them myself, and then Pigment & Ply was born!
Our Process
FROM MY SKETCHBOOK . IN TO THE DYE POT . TO YOUR HANDS
Inspired by sketchbooks, moodboards and photos I have taken I start by creating a mood board. I then usually begin designing with watercolours into notebooks and on scrap pieces of paper I have lying around. From these ideas, some good, some not! I begin to recreate the colour onto yarns and hopefully with a few tweaks these become the colourways you see avaliable in my shop!
We specify that our merino comes from farms that do no practicing mulesing. Therefore all our yarns are mulesing free.
